Why you should care
Restocking the top drawer of your dressers with social good undies can contribute to women’s education and planting trees.
by Kate Houser
If you are anything like us, you like your underwear much like how you like your sustainable and organic companies: long-lasting, personal and a little bit sexy. Okay, maybe not that third one, but the point is, there are multiple ways underwear or lingerie can be a social good brand. They may not have a recycling program (because when is the last time you heard someone say “omg look at these cute used undies I just picked up from the thrift store!”) but they offer so many other awesome features like sustainable production methods and give back programs, and we think THAT is pretty sexy. Shop our favorite brands below!
Undies or panties are something we restock at least once a year. If every person made a conscious choice on where they shopped for undies we could be contributing to women’s education, provide sanitary products to girls in low income communities or contribute to planting more trees.
Thinx Platinum Give Back Medal
With every purchase of a pair of Thinx undies, you can help contribute to some awesome causes like PERIOD, an organization who provides period products for those who are unable to afford them. In addition to PERIOD, Thinx works with EveryBody, an educational program to help girls feel comfortable about their bodies as they mature.
Naja Gold Give Back Medal
We absolutely love the variety of styles Naja offers! They have something for everyone. With their Underwear for Hope program, you can help provide employment to women in the slums of Columbia. They donate a percentage of their revenue to charities that help educate these women so they can help develop their careers to become entrepreneurs. They are committed to using sustainable production methods for their materials to limit the amount of water consumption.
Between the Sheets Silver Give Back Medal & Bronze Sustainability Medal
This brand is B-Corp Certified, 1% for the Planet members and made in the USA. Between the Sheets has limitless cozy underwear, cute lingerie and lounge wear sets. They use eco-friendly packaging, donate 1% of their revenue to plant trees in US, China and Brazil, and make efforts to re-use or donate their extra fabric scraps.
